Logic Probe

Logic probes are used to analyze the logic states (high/true: logic 1 or low/false: logic 0) of digital signals. To verify and debug today’s high-speed, low-voltage digital signals, you need logic probes that can accurately acquire signals from a wide variety of electronic designs, while protecting signal fidelity. Tektronix logic analyzer probes contain a variety of connectivity options that are engineered to ensure that signal acquisition is a true reflection of your design's performance. Logic Probe FAQs

What is a logic probe?

Logic probes are inexpensive handheld probes that are used to analyze the logic states (high/true: logic 1 or low/false: logic 0) of digital signals. They are used by electrical and electronics engineers to verify or debug their hardware circuit designs.

What is a logic probe used for?

Logic probes can be used in a variety of applications. Logic probes are most often used to measure the logic states (high/true: logic 1 or low/false: logic 0) of transistor-transistor logic (TTL) or complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) digital circuits.

How does a logic probe work?

Logic probes are connected to a circuit under test and logic analyzer to take sophisticated logic measurements. Once connected to the line, the logic analyzer can tell you the logic state of digital signals. Tektronix probes offer the industry's lowest probe loading, which protects the integrity of your signal and minimizes the impact on your design.

Is there a convenient way to functionally test logic probes?

Nexus, a partner of ours, offers an accessory called NEX-PROBETESTER2. It is compatible with P6400, P6800 and P6900 series probes and is capable of testing up to 32 data channels and a pair of clock/qualifier lines. For more information go to: PROBETESTER2.

What are the drill tolerances for Logic Analyzer probe footprint PCB holes?

The tolerances are: ± 2 mils for nonplated 33 mil holes ± 3 mils for plated 28 mil holes.

What is the recommended calibrating interval for your logic analyzers? Do probes need to be calibrated?

We recommend calibrating your logic analyzer every year. Probes do not need to be calibrated.

Can the P6316, P6516, or P6616 logic probes be used interchangeably?

The simple answer is no they can't be used interchangeably. The front end of the logic channels are different so different logic probes are needed between the scopes. For MSO2000/B, MSO3000, and MDO3000 Series oscilloscopes, only the P6316 logic probe can be used. For MSO4000 Series oscilloscope, only the P6516 logic probe can be used. For MSO4000B, MDO4000/B/C and MSO5000/B Series oscilloscopes, only the P6616 logic probe can be used.
