What is field DCT coding?

Question:

What is field DCT coding?

Answer:

Discrete cosine transform coding is where every block consists of lines from one field. The chrominance blocks in the 4:2:0 format must never be coded by using field DCT coding, but it is allowed to use field based prediction for this type of block.
