Why can’t the PQA300 lock to a security camera signal?

Question :

Why can’t the PQA300 lock to a security camera signal?

Answer :

The PQA300 requires very precise sync information on its inputs in order to align the incoming stream with the expected stream for frame-by-frame comparison. While most security cameras claim to be NTSC or PAL compliant, they often do not contain very accurate sync information and their signals may not work with the PQA300. To correct this problem, you should be able to run the security camera signal through a time-base corrector to fix the sync information and then the PQA300 should be able to pick up on it. This type of setup has been known to resolve many issues related to interfacing a PQA300 to a security camera feed.
