Can an AWG use a Matlab or Mathcad waveform file directly?

Question :

Can an AWG use a Matlab or Mathcad waveform file directly?

Answer :

The AWG products do not have the ability to use a native Matlab or Mathcad file directly. However, they have a built in conversion tool that will take a columnar ASCII file (Y values separated by LF/CR) and convert it to the WFM or PAT formats that the AWG can use.

There is a Windows based utility that can be downloaded off of the Tektronix web site that will do the same thing, but can do multiple files at once. You would then copy the converted files to your AWG using a floppy disk, FTP or GPIB. Below is the link to the Windows based utility.

You can use ArbExpress software to import the ASCII data and then save it in the native AWG format or send the waveform to the instrument via GPIB or Ethernet. Below is a link to ArbExpress (AXW100)

Another possibility is to use the WFM and PAT file format documentation at the end of the Command Description section of the programmer
