A GPIB-Ethernet controller to is used to connect the scope and the DTG5000 when doing HDMI testing. Can this be used for automation of the testing?

Yes, you can use it for automation. The Oscilloscope then becomes a controller for the DTG5000. Further information can be found in the TDSHT3 Quick Start user manual.
